Why have a treatment?
Massage therapies have existed for a long time and have advanced in specialised techniques over the years. A hands-on technique performed by a skilled professional for both physical and mental clarity to improve skin tone, reduce pain, improve blood circulation, boost the immune system, manage pain, improve physical fitness, and stress management for mental health and well-being, according to the American Massage Therapy Association.
Methods used and practice techniques.
Massage therapies are not as simple as laying back and relaxing. Much thought, science and tradition go into the style and techniques behind the therapy. Eastern treatment balances the body's energy and meridians instead of targeting one issue the client may face. Eastern style investigates the root cause of the issue by promoting overall health and wellness.
The traditional Western technique requires a much longer duration and treatment plan by the practitioner, resulting in only looking at one particular pain or discomfort. However, with the Eastern style, the practitioner will assess and measure potential issues or weaknesses.
The Eastern style is much more rigorous than the Western style, applying deeper pressure and depending on therapies such as Graston, Cupping or Bamboo techniques to expand on the resulting bruising that occurs with those treatments.
How massage therapies can support you.
Massage therapies increase blood circulation to the targeted muscles, boosting the delivery of nutrients they need to function and disposing of the metabolic waste that causes pain and delayed recovery of those dedicated to sporting activities to become more active and functional.
Repetitive stationary positions such as sitting or standing for long durations can cause muscle fibres to become restricted and clogged together,r resulting in adhesions. Adhesions restrict movement and if untreated can lead to muscle grouping or secondarily muscles becoming hypertonic and eventually painful.
Mental health and well-being.
Massage therapies for mental health and well-being by improving sleep, relieving symptoms of depression and anxiety (Click for Research: Treatment effects of massage therapy in depressed people: PubMed, National Library of Medicine), lowering stress levels, feeling fresh and energised, naturally increasing Serotonin and Dopamine both being neurotransmitters (also known as happy hormones) allowing for more mental calmness and a general overall feeling of well-being and connections by increasing Oxytocin. Oxytocin is a natural hormone made in the brain, having an essential role in sexual arousal, allowing people to recognise each other, promoting trust, building relationships and romantic attachment and promoting parent-infant bonding.
Why is massage recommended for cancer patients, according to Cancer Research UK?
Cancer patients should have a massage because it promotes a feel-good mentality. Massages can also elevate mood, improve sleep, and enhance overall well-being, reducing stress, anxiety, headaches, and pain. However, it would be best if you avoided any treatments until a Medical Doctor provides verbal confirmation.
Focusing on creating a stress-free environment where men can come to unwind and feel completely comfortable.

How often should I book a massage, and will someone pressure me to rebook? The frequency of massage appointments at Bodywork Clinic depends on your individual needs and wellness goals. For general maintenance and to alleviate stress, we recommend booking a session every 2-4 weeks. If you're addressing specific issues, such as chronic pain or sports injuries, more frequent visits, such as once a week, may be beneficial until improvement is achieved. Other than those a monthly or every two monthly session should keep you balanced. At Bodywork Clinic, prioritise your comfort and well-being above all. You will never be pressured to rebook. Our goal is to provide a therapeutic space where you can make decisions that best suit your health and lifestyle. We offer recommendations based on your condition and progress, but ultimately, the choice of how often you visit is entirely yours.

When will I feel the improvement after a session at Bodywork Clinic? The timeline for feeling improvements after a session at Bodywork Clinic depends on several factors, including the type of therapy received and your individual body response. For many clients, immediate relief can be felt right after the session, especially with techniques like sports massage or cupping therapy. Generally, clients report feeling a substantial difference within 24 to 48 hours post-treatment. Consistency plays a crucial role in achieving long-term benefits, so following the therapist's recommended treatment plan is essential for sustained improvement.
